Michaels Entertainment Brings Smiles to Special Olympics

As a preferred wedding DJ at premier Shepherds Hollow in Clarkston, MI, Michaels Entertainment was honored to be part of the recent Special Olympics golf tournament. The team provided DJ and videography services and brought smiles to Special Olympic golfers. And Michaels Entertainment was more than up for the challenge of providing superior sound at five distinct locations.

A Yearly Detroit “Fun” Raiser

Mr. Michael Bylen, Owner and Manager of Shepherds Hollow, hosts a golf tournament and awards banquet each summer for the Special Olympics. In the past, the tournament has been at Pine Trace Golf Club. But with their renovations, Shepherds Hollow was happy to step up and serve as the location for this non-profit golf outing. The participants enjoyed six holes of entertaining golf and a full day of recognition.

From Putting Greens to Awards Ceremony

Most corporate or non-profit events use one location, like a ballroom. For this event, Michaels Entertainment needed to customize the best sound for five different locations, including two outdoor areas. Some of the spots had never had a sound system.

The team put a lot of work into pre-site assessments, visiting the venue prior to the event and designing a carefully customized sound system for each site, depending on the unique characteristics and needs of each location.

Registration area: A compact QSC 12.2 system provided sound for some mellow jams for the golfers and allowed the DJ to make key announcements helpful to the registration team.

Course location 1: For the front part of the course, the team used Michael’s dual Bose L1 Pro 16 system to cover a wide area. The opening pairing ceremony was over 100 feet away from the sound system, but still able to provide quality mic audio.

Course location 2: Stationed on the green overlooking the water, a DJ was there to make spirited announcements and good musical vibes as the golfers wrapped up the final holes.

More Locations, More Custom Sound Solutions

The banquet: Shepherds Hollow’s glass event venue served as the beautiful banquet space. As a vendor, we know The Station’s special sound requirements. The Olympians enjoyed a nice selection of music during dinner, with a few announcements.

The awards ceremony: Finally, the Olympians enjoyed reward and recognition for their achievements in sport. Michaels Entertainment’s all white, state-of-the-art QSC Array sound system provided a sight and sound backdrop.

And throughout the day, a member of the videography team was on hand to record the celebration. Now the Special Olympics will have professional videography to enhance their message.

What this Event Means to the Team

As entertainers, the goal is always to be relatable and engaging. The team took every opportunity to connect, making eye contact and smiling, dancing, and high fiving. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the Olympians when they received their awards was worth every minute. And Special Olympics said they’d love to have Michaels Entertainment back next year!
